Scroller turns your phone into a rolling light sign. You type a message, choose colour, typeface, speed and direction, and the text runs across the screen full-bleed, large enough to read from a distance.
It is the same idea as an LED banner in a shop window, using hardware you already have in your pocket.
The text is the only thing you have to fill in. Beyond it you control speed in ten steps, text size, direction left or right, and a full pause if you would rather have a static sign. Colour and typeface are free choices, and eight preset themes set everything at once, from stark monochrome to neon and gold. Swipe the preview to change theme, pinch to change size.
Effects layer on top: particles, glow, glitch, wave, pulse, rainbow, bounce, flicker, blink, strobe and SOS. The last two flash rapidly and should be avoided by anyone light-sensitive or with photosensitive epilepsy. The warning appears in the interface too, for the same reason.
Scroller is an installable web app. Put it on your home screen and it opens full-screen with no address bar and works with no connection, which is the whole point in a crowded arrivals hall with poor reception. The screen stays awake by itself while the sign is running.
The basic mode is free: text, speed, direction and the core choices. Premium unlocks every theme, colour and typeface, all effects, saved presets, party mode, and removes the watermark.
